#GoodNews: Teen Saves Choking Child’s Life With CPR At Target

Hononegah High School Senior Cassidy Davenport recently saved a choking child at a Rockford, Illinois, Target store. When she heard someone screaming for help, she rushed over and, using her CPR skills, successfully dislodged the object causing the choking, which turned out to be a cookie.

Davenport's heroic act came just three weeks after she received her CPR certification. Motivated by her father, who’s a firefighter, she decided to get certified during a school field trip. She hopes her experience will encourage others to learn CPR, emphasizing that it's a valuable skill that doesn't take long to learn.

In recognition of her heroic actions, the teen received a civilian lifesaving award from the Winnebago County Board and the Village of Machesney Park. She didn’t expect any recognition, but she hopes that her story will inspire others to be prepared to help in emergencies. The experience has affirmed Davenport’s plans to pursue a nursing career after graduating from high school.
