On Thursday, September 22, 2011 we lost a beloved member of the WGAR family, as Chuck Collier passed away unexpectedly. He was an Ohio boy, whose broadcasting career on the Cleveland airwaves spanned more than 3 decades.
He loved radio and he loved Cleveland... and Cleveland, along all of us here at WGAR and Clear Channel Cleveland, truly loved him. Anyone who ever listened to or met Chuck knew instantly the kind and caring human being he was.
To his wife, his children and entire Collier family ...our sincere condolences, along with our gratitude for sharing Chuck with us.
Rest in peace Chuck...rest in peace.
I'm on vacation starting tomorrow & through next week. I love my job & the people I work with, but, ya' know, sometimes one has to just get away. So, I'm going to do that. I always head to southern Ohio to spend time. That's where I was born & raised. Friends have asked why I don't go to Aruba, the Bahamas, etc. I tell them that mooching off my cousin is cheaper & I enjoy seeing the folks I grew up with. I sleep too much & always eat too much. So I come back fat & lazy. That's a great combination. Of course, that's what I am right now, so bring me another piece of pie. It just hit me, I owe my cousin some money. I guess I'd better pay him back. I'd hate to sleep in a car all next wek!! See you in a week!!
The tragedy in Indianapolis last Saturday at the Sugarland concert, made me very sad. My thoughts & prayers go out to the families & friends who lost loved ones, as well as to those who were injured. I wish you a very speedy recovery. I have been in the "Sugar Pit" this year. It was much fun & having the stage collapse on me was the last thing on my mind. The odds are that we are all going to go through life without anything like this happening to us or our loved ones. But, things like this do happen. Let's take the time & effort to draw our friends & family close to us. One never knows.
A few days ago, Garth's youngest daughter, Allie, turned 15. Years ago, when Garth retired, he stated that he wouldn't "hit the road" again until she was out of high school. So-o-o-o-o-o-o, that's 3 years.....2014. Will he hold true to his word & will anybody care by that time?? Well, if his Vegas appearances are any indication, they'll care......still care, because they care now. The Vegas shows at the Wynn resort are doing very well. Should you want to check one out during your down time, here is Garth's Vegas schedule for the rest of the year.
August 19 & 20, September 9 & 10, September 23 & 24, October 7 & 8, October 21 & 22 & November 4 & 5.
There ya' go!! Have at it & good luck!!
