During the entire month of October, Normandy Towers Apartments will donate 50% of each application fee to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northeast Ohio Affiliate.

The Great Safety Adventure is a non-profit exhibit (fun, visual, educational, free), that teaches kids about home safety. Traveling across the country, it’s coming to Cleveland October 11 – November 1. The interactive and animated safety house is visiting elementary schools during the week and is free and open to the public on the weekends touching on topics including fire safety, poison prevention, drowning dangers, etc.
A “FIELD TRIP ON WHEELS” –The Great Safety Adventure is a nearly 1,000 square foot home that teaches kids and their families how to avoid common household dangers, including: falls, poisoning, fires and burns, choking and suffocation and drowning. The exhibit visits local schools and Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse locations throughout the country bringing home safety messages to children in a fun and entertaining way.
WHERE’S THE DANGER? – An adult “Safety Ranger”, with the help of children, points out many safety dangers in the kitchen. Each time a danger is identified, children are prompted to say “Code Red Rover, Grown-Up Come Over” reinforcing the importance of involving an adult in correcting home dangers. Once spotted with the childrens’ flashlights, the dangers are made to disappear.
GET LOW AND GO – The Great Safety Adventure teaches children about the importance of working smoke alarms. They learn that if they see smoke in a home, they should use a second way out; or, crouch and crawl under the smoke to a safe meeting place outside. Jungle Jam - The Hunt for a Cure for Bone Marrow Disease

Jungle Jam, a unique, new benefit for bone marrow disease research, will be held Friday, October 17 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight at downtown Cleveland’s House of Blues (308 Euclid Avenue). The festivities will include performances by local bands, a silent auction and special guest appearances. Proceeds from Jungle Jam will help fund the research of Cleveland Clinic’s Dr. Jaroslaw Maciejewski, one of the world’s foremost specialists in bone marrow disease and the Principal Investigator of the Bone Marrow Failure Disease Consortium. Bone Marrow Failure Diseases include Aplastic Anemia, PNH and MDS; non-contagious, rare and potentially fatal illnesses in which blood production in the marrow is disrupted. Complications can arise, and the only cure is a bone marrow transplant.
Cleveland Heights residents Jeff and Sherri Kitzberger, whose eight-year-old daughter Annalyse was diagnosed with two forms of bone marrow disease three years ago, devised Jungle Jam to increase awareness of the disease and raise much-needed funds for research and a cure. For now, Annalyse’s Aplastic Anemia is in remission, but her PNH remains a threat. Her body must work harder than most to produce enough red blood cells, and she has blood drawn on a regular basis to check for low counts. Each time, her parents anxiously wait for positive numbers.

The Department of Art & Art History of Baldwin Wallace College Presents, "Trench Cuisine: A Rock Band's Recipe for Semi-Success" by artist Craig Matis in the Fawick Art Gallery at Baldwin-Wallace College.
The opening reception will be Friday November 7th, 5-8pm. This is a free exhibit and will be open to the public. This exhibit will run October 27th – November 28th. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 2-5pm and by appointment at 440.826.2152.
Craig Matis explains the shows concept and experience: "In its very early days my band, Uzizi, incorporated its songs into a visual format. Before there were Power Point presentations, there were slide shows. I created slide visuals of original artwork that were used in the band's live shows as another means of telling the stories behind the songs. Consequently, designing what I coined as 'songbooks' later became a format which seemed to be a natural extension of the band experience.
The songbook exhibition, "Trench Cuisine: A Rock Band's Recipe for Semi-Success", is a series of 24 panels which engages the viewer in a surreal story about a rock band's journey, from its inception to its tour through the United Kingdom. While the story is fictional, there are definitely elements of it that are true.
The exhibition cannot be experienced fully unless the viewer listens to the accompanying CD on one of the portable CD players available at the gallery desk. The music was recorded by Uzizi."

The Cleveland Animal Protective League is hosting its annual gala fundraiser, the Fur Ball “Adopt-Protect-Love”, on Saturday, November 8th, at the Marriot at Key Tower in downtown Cleveland.
