You Ain't Dolly (And You Ain't Porter), a new track from Ashley Monroe and Blake Shelton, follows in the tradition of classic country duets like Johnny Cash and June Carter's Jackson or Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn's You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly.
From Monroe's album Like a Rose, out March 5, the two swap mischievous barbs, including assessments of the other's physical endowments.
The song's title alludes to Dolly Parton and the late Porter Wagoner, who recorded many hits together during the '60s and '70s. Monroe says she knew Shelton would be her perfect Porter for the song. "He's country as dirt, and he's a walking encyclopedia of country music," she says. "He sang the hell out of it."
Monroe wrote You Ain't Dolly with Vince Gill, who also produced her album. She says they had the coach of The Voice in mind the whole time they were working on the song.
